MCIT was the bridge I needed to transition from working at the collegiate level to working at the professional level, as well as the whet stone I was looking for to prevent me from becoming dull. Liz and Lisa carefully and methodically drew out of me the impetus to be a more realized artist-- to be big when the moment required, to be still, to be dangerous, ugly, critical, forgiving, and at all times vulnerable. The community of compassionate actors that is growing at MCIT is one that supports and celebrates one another after each success, yes, but more importantly after each failure. I learned, and am still learning, how to use my whole body, my whole voice, and my whole awareness of myself and how I experience my world to tell a story, and I understand now that I must leave some part of that onstage, because that is what is required of me as an actor. What's great about MCIT Studio is that both Lisa Berger and Liz Shipman are and have been working in the San Diego community for a long time. The two year Meisner Technique and it's different stages [repetition, independent activities, relationships, impediments, spoon river, scene work etc.] focus on a reality of doing and always playing an action. It emphasizes listening and putting your focus on your partner. But most importantly always living truthfully in the imaginary circumstance. And the Chekhov technique compliments it beautifully. It really helped me with specificity and having a full expression. Jose Galvan--Current Student
I was blessed to be brought into such a wonderful classy mindful group of individuals, who simply showcase respectability, honesty and integrity! It’s taken me quite awhile to find a place to comfortably feel, speak, and simply be myself inside and out… This has taken place, since the day I walked into MCITStudio here in San Diego. Words don’t speak enough about these teachers, ( Lisa and Liz, Jeffrey & Mike) You simply have to walk through these doors! Namaste, Jewels Brettin--Former Student
